Hallie Bongar White is the Executive Director of the Southwest Center for Law and Policy, a tribal non-profit serving as a legal training and technical assistance provider for the Office on Violence Against Women, United States Department of Justice. Hallie also serves as the founder and Dean of the National Tribal Trial College [nttconline.org] at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Her work to increase safety, justice, and healing for American Indian/Alaska Native communities includes the indigenous public health initiative, SAFESTAR [safestar.net], for tribal communities lacking meaningful access to sexual assault forensic examiners and healthcare providers. Hallie is the author of numerous legal and public health publications including the National Tribal Prosecutor Sexual Assault Protocol, National Tribal Law Enforcement Sexual Assault Protocol, Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations, Services, Training and Access to Resources, Creative Civil Remedies for Non-Indian Offenders, and Sex Offender Registration and Notification in Indian Country.

Ms. White trains tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, legal services providers, healthcare providers, victim advocates and courts nationally on effective and innovative responses to gender based crimes, elder abuse, abuse of persons with disabilities, and firearms violence. She is non-Indian and values her role as a mother and grandmother to 5 Citizen Potawatomi Nation children and 4 grandchildren. Hallie is a survivor of violent crime victimization and the recipient of the 2019 United States Department of Justice Ronald Wilson Reagan Award in Public Policy and the 2018 Rural Women’s Health Initiative Leadership Award.
